About Chicago! Chicago! Chicago!
Beginning in 2023, I return to small-scale drawings for quick, concise expression of my concept involving observations of the city Chicago from an urban inhabitant’s perspective.
As I navigate daily through the urban forest of steel and concrete I see skyscrapers cutting the sky into inorganic shapes; window frames slicing Lake Michigan; objects reflecting in the water, undulating, disrupting all the rules. There is a nebulous balance between reality and fantasy, between urbanity and nature, a grafting of two dichotomous elements that create this equilibrium.
In this series, drawings are 5 x 7 inches to 8 x 10 inches, framed in 11 x 14 black aluminum with ivory colored mat. Mediums are watercolor, colored pencil, soft pastel, gouache, and acrylic ink on paper.
